At first, JF & Son sounds almost pedestrian, something you'd read on a truck you're stuck behind at a red light. And that may be true somewhere, but not when it comes to Jesse Finkelstein's brand. He is the designer behind the brand JF & Son, and his company began as a textile consulting firm last year and has now expanded to designing a ready-to-wear women's clothing line.
Finkelstein's approach to the business of fashion is testament to the change JF & Son is trying to implement. They do everything in-house from design to production. "I think it's incredibly important, especially for young designers, to be closely connected to their means of production, both as a business necessity and as a moral obligation."
JF & Son consults in their New York studio while much of their designing goes on in Delhi, India. The studio in India works with a local design school allowing the students to create their own projects while using the resources of JF & Son. This allows JF & Son to "be surrounded by the creative energy that students generally give off."
Imagination and tradition inject the line with a fresh and exciting look. The upcoming fall collection shows impeccable designs you find in a classic piece with a stroke of chic for a modern twist. The colors are bold yet the prints are tastefully simple. Slender pants and dresses lend a serious yet edgy feel. Fall coats echo privilege but are surprisingly ultramodern. Each pieced is a fusion of past, present, and future. This makes for a line of clothing meant for any and every women.
JF & Son embodies an aesthetic of freshness while possessing a savvy sense of style. They introduce different weaving, beading, and printing techniques that give the simplest pieces attitude. They look to add innovative design elements like using the U.S. army's photography of the bombing of Baghdad for a print. You will truly believe the world is in the palm of your hand in a JF & Son piece.
