Married To The Mob: Spring 2008

It is freezing outside.

And not that comfortable "lets-go-get-a-coffee-and-embrace-it" type of weather, but the kind that can only lead to a cold or the flu. I'm sooo sick of it, so you can imagine my delight when I received MOB's vibrant lookbook yesterday.

New York City based women's wear label Married to the Mob springs ahead with their new collection, presented by uber cool rapper bitch Uffie. MOB¹s Fall campaign girl Fafi made the introduction between Uffie and the Most Official Bitches crew knowing they were a perfect fit. Uffie was instant MOB material, with her sex appeal, raw talent and unique style. Hailing from Miami by way of Paris, the 20 year old performer has made mad noise all over the world with her club anthems like Pop the Glock and Ready to Uff. Represented by French music label, Ed Banger Records, she has been featured on magazine covers and has a cult following. For more info on Uffie visit her MySpace page http://www.myspace.com/uffie

The Spring MOB collection features a very special tee that is a collaboration between Fafi and MOB. As you can see the MOBed out Fafinette comes complete with a Birkin Hermes bag, Chanel pumps and a lip tattoo on her thigh. The other special piece is the Boot Camp jacket. An army-influenced jacket with our own MOB twist that comes in two hot colorways. To view the rest of the line please go to http://www.marriedtothemobnyc.com/

Overall, the pieces are well-executed and will probably sell-out next week, but I'm not excited about this collection. It's the same old things, but in different color combinations. It's not bad at all, but for someone who considers herself to be on top of the womens streetwear game - this is not going to cut it. Especially, when you have Hellz Bellz and Mama in your field.

I am glad that the female voice has finally stepped in to the street wear game, but I've been disappointed with M.O.B's collection of late. It does not have a "class" or "creativity" just bunch of words, mainly their name. I thought maybe for the second collection we'll see more of Leah & co really show their creative side. I honestly believe they are overrated. I give props to hellz bellz and Mama for always coming with something new to the table. MOB is whack and needs to get their shit together or hire a new creative director or just drop out of the game, if this is all that they can offer. They are not taking their designs to the next life that they are highly capable of acheiving.
