Augustana and Vega4 @ The Fillmore SF

We caught the Augustana and Vega4 show at The Fillmore a few days ago. Vega4 was the opener, and this was their first stop on their first US tour. I was pretty surprised to see how this new band engaged their audience the way they did. It's been a long time since I've seen a band perform on stage - I've pretty much been a club kid for the past ten years checking out underground talent - so this was almost new to me.

Vega4 was especially enticing. They seemed like down to earth guys even after their new found fame and their music is more digestible than some of the emo music out there. It seemed like the crowd was mesmerized by these guys...and their Irish accents were particularly working for the girls if you know what I mean. They were cool enough to let their fans get a piece of the action, inviting one admirer up to the front to see if she'd go through with her taunts. After their set they came out into the crowd to sign stuff and mingle with fans - very pleasant and not stuck up at all.

We also caught a little bit of the headlining band, Augustana. These guys definitely had a great following at the show, but Vega4 seems like they had a lot more energy. Augustana had a more SoCal / Southern vibe, kind of slow and emo.
