Christina Kamara, aka Christina K., is a producer and emcee from New York with a unique hip hop / pop crossover style. We got a chance to speak to her and find out more about the music and her recent partnership with MTV.
Tell us a little bit about yourself...
My name is Christina K., I'm a songwriter, artist and producer... I have a new single called " I Got a Boyfriend," which is currently receiving radio airplay on the top 40 & Rhythmic stations.
How would you describe your sound?
I would describe my sound as a mix between pop and hip-hop. I pull inspiration from all genres and implement it into my music. By me producing as well, it allows for me to shape the entire feel of the creative process from beginning to end.
Who are some of your favorite music artists and why?
Res is one of my all-time favorite artists, there is no other artist who's music sounds like hers. Kanye West has always inspired me by his confidence and drive. Alicia Keys makes classic music. I also really dig artists like Moby and Portishead.
Where do you get your inspiration from?
I get my inspiration from my life and whatever I am feeling at the time. Hearing Timbaland's production early in his career inspired me to learn how to produce & hearing Salt -N- Peppa as a child inspired me to write rhymes.
How would you describe your sense of style when it comes to fashion?
My style of fashion is a lil unique. It's sort of a mix between b-girl with an edgy twist to it.
What are you obsessed with right now?
My latest obsession is Hanna Montana...lol... I know that sounds crazy, but a lot of us artists can learn a lot from her career. She is an all around superstar who is killing the game right and selling out shows like crazy. Aside from that my MPC 2000XL, but I've been obsessed with that for a long time... I almost forgot, my Mac Book Pro is basically attached to me... I gotta look into that Mac Book Air...
Anything new on the horizon?
I recently secured a licensing agreement with MTV Networks, so we can look out for some of my songs and production to be featured throughout their programming... I'm really excited about that... We are also planning a promo tour to support my single "I Got a Boyfriend" which is getting a good response from radio.
