More than a club, and not exactly a concert, Control in Los Angeles has blown up over the past year. The event is weekly, happening, and features names big enough to headline festivals and stadium raves, opened with clubs resident dj Mr. White.

Helping book, plan, and promote, Mr. White called himself "a kid in a candy shop," in an interview discussing upcoming plans for Control. Friday nights at the Avalon in Hollywood, Control has acts playing all night up until 4 in the morning.

The event is 19+, an uncommon restriction for clubs. Mr. White explained that this is to attempt to restrict high schoolers from attending and keep the club filled with a college age and above crowd. The club has a base of regular attendees and each different act draws it's own crowd from hip hop lovers, to house music fiends, decorating the club with a variety of styles and subcultures.

The cover charge for Control varies night by night. Depending on the size of the act, the price can range from $15 to $25, but even the highest cover charges doesn't turn club goers off from Control, which always seems to have a line down the street.

Mr. White says his role with booking Control lets him take his personal taste and introduce it to people for the first time, and his dj sets concentrate on pumping up the crowd and playing mostly songs they're familiar with that he's chosen to have lead into the headliner act. "We put this on for kids who save their summer job money to buy sneakers and concert tickets," said Mr. White.

This Summer weekends are being kicked off Friday's at Control

July 2 - Stanton Warriors + Nadastrom
July 9 - Freestylers, Will Bailey + Breakdown
July 16 - Plump DJs + One Man Party
July 23 - Klever, Jokers Of The Scene + Steed Lord (live)
July 30 - Grum, Felguk + DJ Neoteric

Sweet, I missed Grum when he hit SF earlier this year and July 30 would be right around when I'm bringing that car up from AZ and passing through LA...might be worth a pit stop :-)
