Connoisseur of cool, DJ Jason Tyler discusses fashion, performing, and his influences. After getting his start on the windy city rave scene and learning a thing or two, this artist has become a force to be reckoned with. His new album, Modus Operandi, is sure to be a hit on the dance floor and off. Be on the lookout for the new album along with an upcoming nationwide tour that you sure won't wanna miss.

As you've probably already figured out, Grooveeffect is a fashion orientated site. What are some of your favorite brands right now? How would you describe your style?

Well, I'm very influenced by the indie/hipster scene. The last thing I bought was a hot air shirt. Those ones that look like crazy hot air balloon prints. I also love my colorful skinny jeans and shiny silver shoes. I'm gonna start rockin the bow tie soon too!

I know you have some really cute glasses that everybody asks you about...

Yea, my Scott Urban Spectacles. They're handmade glasses, made of white record vinyl. He makes them out of wood and regular vinyl too.

Now onto the music, where did you get your start as a DJ?

I came to Chicago in '94 and I got involved on the scene. I started touring with people like Paul Johnson, Green Velvet, Boo Williams, a lot of people who actually influenced artists like Daft Punk.

I listened to your music, and it really is from another world. Who are some of your influences?

It's a combo of a lot of things. Old school Hip House, Felix da House Cat, definitely a lot of old stuff. I really don't sit down and think of styles. I just start [making music] and see how it goes. I don't say, I'm gonna make an album that sounds like this.

So what's your favorite thing about doing a gig?

It's the icing on the cake. You interact with people and get to see their reaction to your music. It's a rush and a thrill, to see the effect your music has on people.

Do you currently have any residencies in Chicago?

I was spinning at the Funky Buddah, but right now I'm planning a nationwide tour to promote Modus Operandi, my new album.

What can we expect from the album?

Well, Modus Operandi is things that you like, that are a part of you. So, the album will be influenced by things I do on a daily basis and what I like.

Can't wait to check it out!
