Every Spring thousands and music lovers congregate in the California desert to check out the top names in both independent and mainstream rock and electronic music. Coachella Valley Music and Arts festival is celebrating it's 11th year with a lineup of headliners Jay-Z, Muse, and Gorillaz.
For the third year in a row, I will trek down to the desert to engage in my favorite weekend of the entire year, leaving all the stress of school and work behind me in rainy San Francisco.
Things I'm loving about this year includes, the lack of Steve Aoki on the lineup, the addition of an ins and outs policy (wonder how much drink sales will be affected by this), Proxy, Julian Casablancas, Yann Tiersen, and the rumors of Jay Z having special guest Alicia Keys.
Despite how excited I may be, a bit of me was bummed that though they are playing small shows in Los Angeles and San Francisco the following week, The Bloody Beetroots aren't on the Coachella lineup. Bon Iver and Animal Collective are unfortunately not participating either. Those mysterious question marks next to Thom Yorkes name really threw me off, is he trying to just stir up conversation, or possibly hinting he is being accompanied by someone (don't get excited it's not going to be Radiohead). I was unaware that the Gorillaz were popular enough in 2010 to be deemed Cochella headliners but hopefully I will be pleasantly surprised.

The lineup gets wosr every year for me, as a diehard techno/electro head rather than an indie rock lover. 07 was the peak year for techno, with good years in 2005, 06, even 08 as well. unfortunately this will be my first year really having the resources and transportation abilities to go. i hope the improved rules for camping and ins and outs will make up for my iffiness on the lineup. whatevs im still really excited to finally have the experience. yay coachella!
Coachellaaaaaa! what more can I say about an awesome gathering with music lovers from all over the world?! Although this will be my first Coachella experience, I am so hyped. The lineup may not be AMAZING, but as a music lover, anything is great. Jay-Z and Deadmau5 together on one night? Benny Benassi, Passion Pit, and Vampire Weekend also? man, ready to camp this shit ouuut.

I'm going for the first time too, i'm stoked as ever, every time i look at the lineup i forget how much money i'm going to lose hahaha.
All i can say is i'm worried i'll have to choose between 2/3 bands i want to see at the same time :[
It's definitely weird that Gorillaz is a Coachella headliner, though it might be a great show to watch, considering that the band's music videos are strictly animated. Also, the question marks after Thom Yorke's name threw me off as well, however could it be that they might add another artist/guest? Since Sunday doesn't have a huge mainstream headliners. (Jay-Z, Muse, and even Tiesto).
I'm really, really excited about Hot Chip, LCD Soundsystem, Grizzly Bear (missed them at Treasure Island), The xx, Yann Tiersen, Julian Casablancas, Spoon, Phoenix, Kaskade, Pavement, and of course Thom Yorke.

The ???? after Thom Yorke's name , as RS Magazine and EW already clarified, is the name of Thom's 'Eraser' band, being: Flea, Nigel Godrich, Joey Waronker and brazillian percussionist Mauro Refosco. They did three shows in LA last year and there are tons of videos of them on Youtube. It might be a crazy/weird show at Coachella and Thom probably will be presenting new material. It will be really something to be able to witness Yorke and Flea doing their crazy dance together, that's for sure.
the line up is definitely growing on me. i wasnt blown away at first but now i love it. definitely. gorillaz definitely woudlnt be someone id expect at first for a headliner but once up i feel it was a good choice. they are very versatile and i am a big fan of their music and feel it be an epic show especially with the animation.
when or were can you buy the coachella ticket just for ONE day??
please i need to find out ASAP :)

I'm actually not sure. Last year the three day pass was just a pack of three tickets but this year it's a wrist band, so I was going to say you could always buy a 3 day pass and sell the tickets to the days you're not going but that won't work this year.
It says tickets will be avaliable in person though. But so far on the website so information about individual tickets.

Im stoked on the first two days, Jay Z Deadmaufive, tiesto, benni bennassi, muse. The only thing was I was going to go with sunny and he isnt down. I might still go with greg HIll
